The Elliott Studio Series
The Elliott Studio Series is an ambitious community outreach effort by MVLCT. Its mission is to provide an opportunity for small studio style comedies and dramas to be performed at little to no cost except the necessary royalty payments. Producers are guaranteed one weekend consisting of up to four shows in the Uptown Theater at the First Street Building in Mount Vernon, IA. This initiative is not intended for large cast or spectacle musicals or plays, but will provide a home for small passion projects needing a place to shine.
Interested parties will fill out an application and if selected, interview with the board.
Elliott Studio Series productions include:
The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson - Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. (Summary Courtesy of Dramatists Play Service). Featuring Jessica Link, Braden JP Rood, Jora Miller and Kami Zbanek Hill.
No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre - Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in Hell. The windows are bricked up, there are no mirrors, the electric lights can never be turned off, and there is no exit. (Summary courtesy of Concord Theatricals) Directed by Grant Freeman. May 16-19, 2024.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks by Richard Alfieri - Lily, a spirited retiree, hires Michael, a sharp-tongued dance instructor, for lessons in her Florida condo. What starts as mutual irritation between the two slowly transforms into a touching friendship. As they move through the steps—tango, cha-cha, foxtrot—they also navigate grief, humor, and unexpected connection. (Summary courtesy of Concord Theatricals) Directed by David Morton. August 15-17 and 22-23, 2025.
33 Variations by Moisés Kaufman - A mother coming to terms with her daughter. A composer coming to terms with his genius. And, even though they’re separated by 200 years, these two people share an obsession that might, even just for a moment, make time stand still. (Summary courtesy of Dramatists Play Service) Directed by Rachel Korach Howell. September 26-28 and October 3-4, 2025
